The 5 Ws of a breather

Haven't updated in a while, have I? Want to know what happened?

Ignore the bad punctuation.

Who - I'm a stay at home dad. I love my kids into little grimy pieces. And as much as I love them, being a full time caretaker takes its toll after a while. So, I started this blog. It's an opportunity to do something else I love, cooking and writing, in a productive manner.

At first, it was a whole lot of fun.

Then it started to feel like work. Which is fine.

What - Effectively, this is a hobby. I'm not looking to get rich off it, although if you want to donate to my Ko-Fi (nudge, wink) I'll sure put it to good use.

The trouble is, I started looking at is not as something I get to do because I enjoy it, but as just another job that needed doing in an endless cycle of drudgery.

I'm not being resentful of the kids, I do for them because they can't do for themselves. But that doesn't mean it doesn't get real old after a while.

When - Right around the time of the Snickerdoodle post. Here's a phrase you never want to hear yourself say, "do I have to make cookies today? Shit, I do. Dammit."

I don't want to live in that world.

Where - This is probably more of a variation on when, but summer was kind of a rough road for certain members of my extended family. I'm not going to delve into what happened, but things got a little hairy just before I started this blog in earnest, and I kind of started on the wrong foot.

Why - Because while I greatly enjoy doing this, it started feeling like a drudge. By the time I got to that accidental sourdough post, I wasn't really feeling it anymore.

Besides which, I had run out of ideas. I would rather put out nothing than something I don't like.

So I took a break.

I'm writing stuff now. Already have one entry in the final stages of editing and two more in progress.

Also, I've come up with a defense against the doldrums.

I'm calling them Short Snorts. A simple recipe, quickly discussed. Some pics, minimal frippery. Informative, and hopefully entertaining. I'll be dropping one of them every so often. Usually it'll be a simple product that can be used as an ingredient in another recipe or technique.

With all that in mind, Fat Guy In a Little Kitchen will start regularly posting again on 10-18, Thursday of next week. I'll be doing one of those Short Snorts to lead with. After that, full sized ruminations for a while.

Expect occasional breaks to happen. This blog is a good creative outlet, but it's not my life. Occasionally updates will be delayed, or skipped entirely. This is a labor of love, and I intend to keep it that way for the foreseeable future.

This is not a plea for attention or a cry for help. I'm taking care of my business just fine so far.

So, with all that in mind, I thank you for taking a little time to read my stuff.

As ever, from the bottom of my heart, don't put your knife in the dishwasher.
